I was never very much interested in home theatres and ignored the 5.1 audio standard, but recently it occurred to me that some music could sound very interesting on these systems if it were mixed or remixed especially for them. Talk about soundstage! Classical comes to mind first, but it could be many different genres. Is anyone aware of anything like this?

Aren't concert dvd's recorded in 5.1?

Think so yeah.
But as far as 'regular' recordings it's safe to say that 5.1 albums are indeed rare, at least that I know of. I only happen to have one (Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come). 5.1 sure can add some fun to the listening experience though. |

Yes its more common to find "surround sound" in DVD's, I’ve found a few DTS (surround sound) CD’s but they’re typically much higher priced than normal CD’s, for example click here to see.

Thanks, I'm going to get one of these and try them on my friend's surround system. The choice is kind of limited, yes. Hopefully his DVD player supports the format.
