A friend of mine gave me a Clip+ 4GB that had a broken screen cable. I tried fixing it, but I don't have the right equipment, or skill, to solder something that small so it ended up being a screenless, but otherwise normal, Clip+. I originally thought I'd pull the battery out and use it in a GPS RC airplane datalogger I was working on but I thought that if it still worked, why not use it?
It powers up into the radio, which works fine. However, I want to use it for music. I want to put it in shuffle mode, playing all songs on the player so I wouldn't have to navigate any more menus after that. However, I don't know how the Clip+ menu is set up. I don't even know the controls and I'm afraid that if I exit the radio I'll never figure out how to get it from there to the music folder. Which brings me to my question. Does anyone know of a PDF or website explaining the menu layout and navigation system well enough to navigate from the radio to the music menu and set the player on shuffle? Or would someone be willing to walk through the steps for me? It has the most recent firmware version as of about two months ago (Win7 tells me it has v01.02.15A), though I can update it if necessary. I tried installing RockBox on it but for some reason RockBox wouldn't find the Clip+ and I figured maybe it was better to leave it with the stock FW for now.

I do not believe you are going to find much beyond the manual explaining the menu, although I doubt the menu will be of any help in your situation. I don’t know if you are near a best buy but I’ve seen them display working models of the Clip+, I believe this would make it easiest for you to stop by with yours and follow what you see on a working one.
BTW I agree with you not installing rockbox, it would only complicate matters ...

Unfortunately, the nearest Best Buy is a couple thousand kilometers away
. However, I might be able to find someone with a Sansa Clip+ a tad bit closer to where I live. Thanks for the idea, I'll reply back if I have any success!

another idea would be to go to abi irc, there's a few members who own them and you could chat to someone real time. Good luck

Good idea. Is the ABI channel hosted on the irc.freenode.net servers, or elsewhere? Thanks again for your help!

Well, I finally got my Clip+ on the music screen with shuffle enabled. It works great and the sound quality is way too good be be true. It makes even my cheap earbuds sound somewhat good, at least way better than my Samsung T10 makes them sound. I'm tempted to order a Clip+ or Zip, just because of the sound quality, even though I'm waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Player 4. Anyways...
One of my friends walked me through the steps to get from the radio menu to the music menu and turn on shuffle. Now every time I start it up it starts playing automatically, so right now the only buttons I really need to use are the power button and volume. I've renamed it the Frakenshuffle in honor of Apple's mildly popular Shuffle, mostly because of the lacking screen and I dedicate it to WalkGood, for all his help. I'll dremel your name in the back of it eventually, WalkGood, and post a picture here .Thanks for the help!

Well, I know it's been a while since I said that I'd upload some pictures of my engraved Clip+ but life can be busy at times! I didn't take the time to actually look at what I should have been engraving, so it ended up being Walkgood instead of WalkGood, but what's done is done
. I also don't have the steadiest of hands, or the finest of Dremel engraving tips, so think of it as bold font.I've been called a genius before, for various reasons, but I prefer to think of myself as someone that just does things that not everybody else does. However, if I ever cure cancer I'll let you know, and then I'd be glad to be called "genius" .DSC09662.jpg DSC09670.jpg -EDIT- The pictures don't show up for me until I click on the link, just a heads up. (Then again, of course they'd show up after I edit the post the first time...)
