Do I need to install that to my Clip+ before I install rockbox?

No, you need a copy available to supply to the Rockbox Utility when it asks for it. I haven't done a automated installation in a while but I know at some point it needs you supply a copy of the firmware to be patched. Have it ready by storing anywhere but on the player. When it asks for it, point it at that location.

OK I installed Rockbox and it's working fine, I can boot into both the OF and Rockbox, however when plugging it into my PC it's not detecting the player.
I've changed the USB settings back to MSC in the OF. OK so it works in the OF, but not in Rockbox... can you not copy music to it via Rockbox? |

USB support is disabled in Rockbox. You'll need to use the OF for that.
I just typed this up a few minutes ago so I'll just quote myself. Quote:

OK I can live with that, it's so easy to boot into each firmware anyway.
So far I like it, I've changed my theme to Classic and I love the layout and font, I've also managed to add my favourite Radio Station to the presets. Thanks to you guys I'm up and running!

I've put in my MicroSD card and the directory structure has me a lil confused.
It's showing as: H:\MUSIC\AUDIOBOOK\ H:\MUSIC\PODCASTS\ So audiobooks and podcasts folder is IN the music folder... is this correct? I deleted the folder, reinserted the MicroSD and it formatted it the same way again. So should I be putting my music in "MUSIC" even though the AUDIOBOOKS and PODCASTS folders are in there? |

Yes....you can just ignore those.

What you're seeing is the folders that get rebuilt every time the database refreshes. Because a file is in there doesn't mean it will be treated differently than any other file by Rockbox. You can build your own folder structure or make use of the one that's there.
Except for the .rockbox folder put the files wherever you want.

I couldn't get my Clip+ to write to a card in it faster than around 4.5 MB/s. The same card in a usb card reader was written to at around 8 MB/s. Imo using a card faster than class 4 in the Clip+ makes no sense, unless you change the music on the card often, and plan to remove the card and put it in a fast card reader when you want to change the music on it.
