Hi people,
The title says it all. I've got quite a big and messy music folder and I want to clean it up. The problem is I got some artists with two songs with two different album tags in the same folder, so the folder.jpg/album art applies to both tracks instead of just the one. Is there a program that makes album folders in the artist folder according to the ID3 tags of the songs in the artist folder. I hope I was clear enough ![]() Thanks Mojito_619 |

foobar2000 can do this. make sure you select the "file operations" component during install as it's not selected by default.
simply add the files to a playlist, highlight them, right click>file operations>move to>... first select a destination folder and then note by the file pattern text box there is a ".." button. from here you can choose some predefined patterns. or you can type in your own such as %artist%\%album%\%filename% it's very powerful when you know the syntax. a full listing can be found here... http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index....ting_Reference you'll get a preview so you can see what it'll look like before applying.

MediaMonkey (MM) can arrange your songs into folders based on the tags, and it can name your songs based on the tags. To do this you set up an auto-organization rule for your songs and when MM scans your library it will organize them based on the rule you established.
As an example, I have all of my songs in a single folder named "Music Library" that are arranged as follows: <Album Artist>\<Album>\<Two Digit Track Number> - <Title>.mp3 When MM scans your library, it will arrange your songs and rename them based on the auto-organization rule(s) you have established. It will also move the files and rename them when you edit your tags, if it is needed. As far as album art goes, rather than using a folder.jpg file I embed the album art in the ID3 tag itself. However, MediaMonkey does give you the following options for storing the album art: (1) in the ID3 tag, (2) in the folder as a "folder.jpg" (or another name) or (3) storing it in both locations. I hope this helps.

I know this thread is a little old, but I just have to say MusicBee works beautifully for this task.
My collection is organized like CDMP3PlayerFan. In MusicBee, I configured it to organize all of my tracks as "<Artist>\<Album>\<track2> - <title>". MusicBee organized all of my 1500 tracks into this in seconds. Amazing. No more cluttered library for me !

Thanks for reviving this, McDougal... I tried to do this with MP3tag earlier today, and it wasn't reading my tags right. At all. But that's a problem for another time. I will try MusicBee. Or foobar. But I'd have to track down the plugin for that on foobar since I didn't include it on my install.

But anyway, yeah, try MusicBee. Great program especially since it's free.

I'm using it as my primary player now too. I don't like the default theme actually, but if you go into the View menu there are tons to choose from
.Now if only it could sync my iTouch....
