Default WPS Creation for the Sansa

Well, one of the first things that I thought when I first booted Rockbox is that "Wow! This is really cool!" I think the next thought that went through my head was "Wow! This is really ugly!" I have seen some screendumps of what Rockbox could really do, so I began doing some research on how to make the Sansa look really good too. I have created a couple of backdrops that fit the Sansa's screen, and converted a couple new fonts. I have also recently begun working on a WPS (While Playing Screen). All I have right now is a layered image file with what I want on the WPS. If anyone has any suggestions of a good way to go about getting this from concept to reality, please let me know. Here is what I have so far though. Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
- ionman

it looks really nice, i however would prefer more clarity and less (glassy) effects ... just my preference though

the menu/font etc for fuzzydesigns psp theme are almost perfect imho .. sleek, stylish and most importantly: easy.

you don't have to look at it for a couple of seconds, you immediately know what is what and nothing is distracting AND it still looks great.

Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone know how to get album art to display in a WPS? I have been looking at a few examples and have not been able to figure this one out yet.

Thanks,

Default Onyx Theme

Well, I did a lot of research, and a lot of tweaking (the UI Simulator was a life saver.), and this is what I came up with. I can't do album art (you have to have special patches to do this, and it can only display bmp's anyway, so there is no point), and I have not figured out how get a graphic progress bar yet. Maybe davinci can help me out on this one.

Here is what is in the Onyx theme package currently:
  • Backdrop
  • Tahoma Bold Font
  • Theme File
  • WPS File
  • All images needed for the WPS

WPS features include:
  • 6 state battery indicator
  • Clock
  • 9 state volume indicator
  • Artist, album, track
  • Progress Bar
  • Time played - time remaining
  • Play status graphic

To install it, drop the contents of the Onyx folder into your .rockbox folder.

More features are planned, such as a light version, and more graphics. I need to learn how to do more stuff though first.

Please let me know what you think!

Enjoy!

Can you post your themes up on rockbox-themes.org as well? There's only one on there at the moment, and it looks lonely!

I gather from all the screenshots I've seen, that the menus can't be skinned.

Why is that?

I just found this, and WOW! What an amazing job! Too bad sound doesn't work on Rockbox.... When sound starts working, I will have sooo many jealous friends (more than are jealous already)
