I downloaded various MP3 music files for my Clip Zip and the LCD menu shows them in an album named "unknown". I'd like to put them in several different albums with different names. I downloaded the program MP3tag hoping that it would let me do this but the program doesn't recognize that I have MP3 files on my Clip Zip.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to create and name albums for my MP3's? |

Is your Zip in MSC USB mode? If not, then MP3Tag probably won't show what is on the player.

As Marv points out if you loaded those files in MTP or Autodetect (does the Zip have autodefect?) Mp3Tag won't see them or be able to work with them. Mp3Tag needs a drive letter to work.
Just changing the USB mode to USB didn't work on the other Sansas because what was loaded in one mode couldn't be seen in the other. It's most probably true here too. You would need to would either take everything off, and rework them with Mp3Tag, then reload them or wipe everything out and start over. If the files are properly tagged they show reliably on all my other Sansas, I'd guess that goes for the CZ also.

Andy...if you wish to stay with MTP mode (or are you set to Autodetect/Autodefect?), you could run MP3Tag against the files while still on your computer, then copy them to the player. Steve |

Yeah skip, the Zip unfortunately continues the tradition of the previous Sansas of having MSC, MTP, and the default Auto-defect mode.
As skip and Steve have mentioned, probably best to tag the originals on the computer and then re-load the Zip.

I thought it did. It's been the same on every Sansa I've owned since the E2xx Sansa series. If you know about it and lock into one mode it's not bad. It's when you leave it in autodefect things get unpredictable.

I've attached a screen shot of the directory with my MP3 music files that MP3tag didn't recognize. |

Andy, when you try to show those in MP3Tag, does anything show? A screenshot of that might help. Also, are these MP3 files ones that you created with iTunes, or not?

I get nothing with MP3Tag. Here's a screenshot. Maybe I should use a different program? |

![]() but we may just have our options set differently. These are what mine look like on my netbook...I made it a point to not include them in the Windows library so that I'd be accessing them from just one place, the original location. Also, do you also own an iPod? If not, then I wouldn't use iTunes for my music management needs. You could still use it for just your podcasts, of course.

I just realized that you did already show the Explorer view before. The songs in there look like they are loose in the music folder, and not in subfolders.....I wonder if that would make a difference. There is another method too.....just put the songs in folders and use the folder browse method. It's a workaround, but it should at least be a short-term solution.

I finally figured out how to use MP3tag and renamed my albums. Thanks for your help.
