Default Cowon J3, X7 Or Something Else? Australian Availabilty Important!

Hi everyone.
Great site and forum, love the reviews.
Sorry to burden you with yet another “help me choose” post but I am not at all up-to-date or informed and would greatly appreciate your input.
I want to replace my Cowon I7 which I have loved but is now very crowded.
I am thinking of getting either a Cowon j3 32 GB with 32 GB microSD extension or Cowon X7 160GB (have emailed links to Boyfriend ) but I am a little dissuaded by the proprietary USB cables and redundant (for me) features.

Heres some of the breakdown of my wants:
  • Location : Australia but preferably online
  • Budget: No Object
  • Use: Audio only. Music and audio books equally while commuting exercising and going to sleep.
  • Type/Design: To fit in my hip pocket, DAP probably but PMP is ok just possibly will contain redundant features for my requirements
  • Features: Primary: above 16Gb,Compatible with as many formats as possible, longest battery life possible, non proprietary USB or other cables,
  • Features: Secondary Sound quality (big bass, good vocal) drag and drop, plug and play, dedicated volume button, non retarded GUI (EI: simple or custom),Toughness, Backlit, FM tuner, Bluetooth/wireless headphones.
  • Display: don’t care really as long as its usable
  • UI/Controls: don’t care really as long as its usable
Most important to me is all round compatibility and size (memory and battery not penis )

Thanks for your time
Deedee

PS: Doesn’t have to be a Cowon (just not an Ipod) I just really loved my I7.

Welcome to ABi

You might also take a look at the Sony line. Depending on which Sonystyle covers Australia you may find the newer A86x series available. It does use a proprietary cable but the WM-Port cable isn't hard to find and with an unlimited budget you could buy another as a backup.

If that doesn't work for you then I would look at J3 or X7. The Cowon C2 would also be an option but I don't know it's availability in Australia.

The X7 isn't considered pocket size nor does it have Bluetooth capability. None of the current Cowons support audiobooks AFAIK so you would have issues there also.

If it weren't for the long battery life I'd say a Sansa Clip+ or Clip Zip along with an additional memory card would fill the bill. No Bluetooth there either. I can't think of any one DAP that fills all your requirements off hand but those are the ones I can think of that come closest.

Sounds like J3/S9 don't know if it's available in Australia or what not. Actually I would go with the S9 cheaper price same thing but without slot.

If you really want battery, the X7 has more than the J3.

Cheers guys

looks like its the J3 for me

@skip252
I wasnt able to find the sony A86x available over here.
The issue with cables is more about not wanting to carry one about all the time and also not to support proprietorial business practices.
I had a good look at the sansa, not enough of an upgrade for me but I know someone who will be getting one for x mass now

@Confispect
I really want that extra 36GB lol

@steinburger1109
I think ill compromise a little battery life for the ability to put it in my pocket.

thanks again

you three rule
