Recently music and audiobooks would no longer play on my clip. The song or file just stays paused at 00:00. It also takes about 5-10 seconds to start up. Is it time to upgrade or is there a solution?

Hold the power button for 15-30 seconds, that should trigger a full reset.

Maybe you got some corrupt files on the Clip. Transfer them back to your PC (if you don't already have backups anways), then format the Clip with its system option. After that transfer smaller batches of files over to the Clip and see if it boots and plays ok. You could also try reinstalling the firmware.
