Just Bought A Clip+ After 2 iPods Died This Year

I'll keep it short and sweet. I hate Steve Jobs. I find the entire aura of Apple to be a complete joke. It is a status product, not a quality product like the world will have you believe. I used to own a Mac long time ago in the 90's and compared to PC's it was overpriced and lacked features. Voila! Nothing has changed.

I bought into the iPod hype in 2005 October and got one as a gift. $420 baby! Got it engraved on the Apple site. 60gb. Something unheard of at that time. Pretty much a portable computer the size of a deck of cards. Protected it with state-of-the-art screen protector and never dropped it. Well it broke this year after 6 years of use. I had it as my main player in my car that with docking station and all. It took the sunlight. It took the cold. It kept working. Well that was until the sound card stopped working this year. You see there is a problem when an mp3 player will turn on and work but not have sound...

Then I go to my 2nd in command - iPod Shuffle. Strictly for gym use. Anyways yada yada yada, I left it in my gym shorts. Put the shorts in the washer with lots of detergent. Then I run that bad boy in the dryer for 40 minutes until I hear a clicking sound. I open the dryer to expect a rock or pebble and I see my shuffle is not shufflin' anymore. Burnt to a crisp.

Apple is a horrible company and outsource many of the components in their products to places like Skyworks and Triquint.

I have since bought a Clip+ 4gb for $34.99 on Amazon and have used it 2 days. It is awesome.

Congrats on the Clip+.....it's a great little player.

It seems your Apple hate is a little misplaced,though, if you got years of service out of the iPods you had.

Marv's words are true. 6 years out of one player is good, and the Shuffle breaking is hardly Apple's fault. Nonetheless, very glad to hear about your new player!

Congrats on the Clip+, I agree with others that it's a great player. I'm no apple fan either but their players are no better or worse than others but certainly over priced. BTW 6 years of use out of any player is tough to beat, as much as I love the Clip I'd be hard pressed to say it'll last you as long. That said, one of mine must be going on 4 to 5 years now and still working fine, hope it sees 6 ...

Didn't the Clip come out in fall 2007? Got my first one in late Nov 2007 (maybe very early Dec). Still working just great, despite the occasional drop.

EDIT: Wiki says it was released Oct 9, 2007.

Yeah I gotta give props to Apple on durability but an F- on their pricing. The iPod Video was indeed durable. I ran it through 2 big amps in my car for a long time on max volume and controlled overall volume through my receiver. It was hit by sunlight and snow and still came through. Just too overpriced to get a new one. The shuffle always made me mad. If I didn't use it for awhile, the battery would die and so would all the songs on it. Also I hate iTunes. There are things like software update that erase everything on the shuffle. Never knew why. I also hated how limited the shuffle was compared to other mp3 players like the Clip+. I hope the Clip+ lasts long. If not, I'll just get another haha. The drag and drop makes me smile. iTunes never made me smile or my computer.

While I agree the shuffle has very few features, wasn't it your fault it got destroyed in the dryer? I'm confused, and I don't see your point why the shuffle failed to play music. Except for your mishap, you had a pretty good run with your iPod video. I've had mine for awound the same time as you, and it's still going strong.

As for the Clip+, it's one of the best sounding players out there, and it's been proven to take some abuse.
