Awesome news.
Sandisk Class 2, 16GB Card 16:14:17 2GB Card 8:00:31 Clearly MicroSD's can cause the drain. So glad I can hit my >15 hours now. Yay! Last edited by FluffyWings; 03-30-2011 at 11:23 PM. Reason: Add Brand |

so, we can say that microSD consume more power than microSDHC ??

I am not sure. Chances are its a generational reason. Newer controller and lower nanometer memory probably reduce the power consumption. I would bet that most SDHC cards are a safe bet.

yes, it's reasonable that newer card has lower power consumption, since technological refinement give us more efficiency.
but, i still hope there is any improvement in rockbox, even in standard capacity card... rockbox is truly ROCK SOLID...... |

Sandisk specification says

all the cards brands will have the same battery life?? someone could post his results with kingston or a-data or any other brand to compare them i don't want to make the mistake buying a wrong card (16 or 32 GB) PD: sorry for the bad english |

but i think coordination between host device and card itself is needed. |

A google search of microsd battery life shows that 2GB cards cause many problems. I would imagine that any microsdhc card will be fine.

I found with some informal testing that my Clip+ battery lasts 9.5 hours with or without a microSD card (4GB Transcend Class 6).
What I did was fully charge it and set it to shuffle play through an assortment of .ogg, .wma and .mp3 files ranging from 128k to 320k. Negligible gain in battery life playing entirely 128k files from external memory only. I set brightness to minimum, backlight to 5 seconds, volume about 1/3. Stock firmware.

The max. current indication in the disk info debug screen in rockbox is a bit misleading. It only provides meaningful current information for relatively older cards. It will be wrong for SDHC cards, for example.

in this case, my sister's card is manufatured in 2009, and it was a microSD not SDHC.
and last test gave me 15h : 5m runtime. so i can conclude that different brand have different power consumption. as said in wikipedia Quote:

I tested current SVN with my Clip+ using an 8GB Kingston SDHC card with V2 lame mp3s, and got:
16:30 w/o card 16:15 w/ card So at least on my player with my card there is no real hit from having SD.
