Default C'mon MS - about time to drop the US WLive ID requirement for APPs for ZuneHD

Dave maybe you can answer....

With the Windows Phone Market so firmly established now - and the ZuneHD closing in on the end of it's 2nd year of life - I have an open question I would like MS to answer (well a couple actually)...

* What is stopping MS opening ZuneHD App downloads to all current WP7 Marketplace regions?

* Why not hold the US LiveID requirement for ZunePass - and just give the ZuneHD App downloads to anyone that has a ZuneHD in WP7 supported Zune App markets - so international customers can at least get the apps that are free from MS for the device?

C'mon....Please.

<sigh>

Looking forward to WHY or WHAT the heck is stopping this taking place.

I totally agree. I think it's ludicrous to restrict apps to the US.

I'm guessing the reason they will give for why the apps aren't available outside of the US is because of their partners.

This is why i love being American Almost everything (perhaps a small exaggeration) is here first, if it ever gets anywhere else. But i still agree with you, it should be as global as possible, and the same places should be possible for both Zune and WP7. And if they're not, thats another area that the fruity products beat the crap out of MS's. Work on it Dave!

Before Canada had support I made a seperate American windows live id and I'd change the geographic location of my computer to america and sign in Zune with the American wl id and download apps to my computer, I could then switch to my Canadian ID and sync to my zune hd.

Overall the process only took a couple minutes. But yeah, the fact I needed to do this is a little silly.

I did that too - from Australia - but don't want to fiddle with multiple Zune logins, Region setting adjustments etc when I am using both WP7 (primary) and ZuneHD (secondary).

You may have hit it on the head here. Can't think of anything else unless there is some crazy complexity in the back-end systems managing the Zune Client that makes it expensive or time-consuming to change for no return to MS.
