If you want to stay portable, then the Arrow sure is a very fine amp for the HD650. It really didn't drive my HD650 any worse than my Woo 6 (just not as tube-y ).

I should also add that I could just save up for a JVC FX700 instead of getting either

All this talk is making me want my dang arrow to hurry up and get here.
Daanish, I trust dfkt's opinion about the arrow driving the HD650 but you also asked if the J3 would do it by itself. I had a S9 at the same time as the HD650 and the answer is no, they need more power to sound correct IMO. So if you get the 650's you will need an amp I would say. Im getting the arrow in hopes it will open up my Grados a bit as I got rid of the 650's already.

Yeah, the Telechips/Wolfson Cowons do struggle with the 300 Ohm HD650. Amusingly, the generally quieter Clip+ drives them with better quality. Seems it has some smarter impedance matching.

+1 to another impressed Arrow owner. Mine's a 2.2G, and listening with UE18s atm its awesome. Might need to tweak the settings for rock though.

For those who have made the leap of faith and had nil responses to their impatient requests for an ETA:

Purchased: 3 Feb 11
Shipped: 23 Feb 11
i.e. current wait time to shipping 20 days.

Good things come to those who wait. At least they better had.

Well considering none of us have a 4g its kinda hard to say. But for rock as you say and with a the rolled off highs of the SE530's I would say a treble switch might be nice to have. I use a lot of full sized cans with my arrow so Im inclined to like the impedance matching ability of the 3g. Its a tough call and like I said, none of us have actually have the 4g to tell you if the treble switch is worth it or not.

I also like the sound of the 4g bass boost as described. More than the first setting on the bass boost with the 3g is just too much for me. Id almost like a 1.5 which is what the 4g might be.

Hi guys!

I'd like to upgrade my outdoor setup and can't decide whether to first buy Arrow or Hifiman HM-601... (can't buy them both at one time) I'm currently using UE triple.fi's 10 with my Cowon iAudio 9. My question is whether combination of Cowon, Arrow and UE would deliver more quality sound than Hifiman with UE.
And one more thing.. I mostly listen to bass music.

Thank you!

Well most people around here think the Hifiman is an overpriced POS so I would say go for the Arrow. I have it and it is nice.
