My Fuze has died, what's next?!

My Fuze V2 gave me the White screen and got stuck there forever.

What would be a good replacement, since for me it's mostly all about sound quality, and FLAC playback capability.

Your input is welcome.

Thanks, nodirectionhome, as mentioned, sound quality is a must for me as well as FLAC capability. Micro SD compatibility would be nice.
Can any one be a bit more precise concerning these Samsung or Cowon models, is there a clear best model in Fuze 8 Gb price range?

There is nothing, no player in that price ranage as good as the Fuze v1/v2 or Clip + s as has already been indicated. If Fuze I'd prefer the v2 for the battery life and if you go new, go Clip +. There might be some new Fuze's left but if you go refurbished there's plenty. I’d stay away from the Fuze + for now …

LOL...Anybody that thinks a Fuze is hard to find hasn't typed "Sansa Fuze" into a search engine recently. Try it. They're everywhere, including the Sandisk site.

They may not be in b&m stores like they were but there's no shortage yet. If Sandisk's past history is any indicator it may be quite a while before there's any need to be concerned about getting your hands on one. Heck, you can still get the old e260 off Amazon cheap and they were discontinued years ago.

skip252 great point on the Fuze and regarding the e200 series, a good friend of mine just sold his e260 in excellent shape on ebay for $50.00

SKIP252, WG...excellent. I did myself notice the still-ubiquitous nature of the Fuze online. In truth, I am contemplating another Fuze [my 3rd] simply as a backup down the road.

Indeed, the Fuze might be "officially dead" but should be lots available for quite some time...thankfully

Just don't want anybody to get hurt in the mad dash to get one before they dry up. Sadly, they will one day. There doesn't seem to be much else on the horizon with that killer combination of value and battery life either. Rockbox really kicks it up another notch.

I'm sure at some point when the battery on my current one starts to die I'll pickup another. I like the Clip+ a bit more due to the D pad. However the extra battery life and being able to keep the young one amused with videos means I'll want to keep a Fuze around for a long time.

Good call....the V1 is getting pretty old, and I think that the extra battery life on the V2 is a great reason to upgrade from a V1. My dad has a silver V1...and I notice that his Rockbox is slower than Rockbox on my V2, plus it looks more worn down and the battery life is shorter, I think the V2 is a worthy upgrade.

Don't forget that battery life difference is in Rockbox. In the OF it's the same.

Somebody out of the blue asked me the other day at work if I had any players for sale, and I said, "actually, I just might in a few days." I have no complaints whatsoever with the V1, it works just fine....but sure, it makes sense to sell that one and keep the V2.

Aw, c'mon Marv, it's not that bad. It's actually quite usable. I had mine for months before Rockbox was ported to it. My wife has one she refuses to let me Rockbox. She's set her backdrop to the tan which is pretty darn readable even is bright daylight. Not like a full Rockbox theme but there is some customization.

The EQ isn't the butt kicker that Rocbox's is but with the latest firmware it's usable if you work in negative values. If Rockbox didn't exist I could live with one as-is and not cry too much.

Usable, yes.....in fact, a 4GB model was my first ever DAP, and it was a great way to break into the hobby. I don't hate it at all....but Rockbox really frees the player to live up to its capabilities, like my sig says. I just wish it could add a dedicated volume control.

lol...Yes, agree with skip252...the Fuze original GUI aint gonna win any design awards nor will it blow you away with RB-like sound toys, but it is certainly serviceable IMO.

Though, I must confess, like Marv, I pretty much have forgotten what it looks like

8 months after my original post, my used Fuze V2 is letting me down (2nd one) with a not functioning wheel. Now, still in the same price range, what should I replaced it with when best sound is concerned, listening mostly to FLAC? Another Fuze V2, Clip, else.
