Default How to downgrade to version 2.47 ????????

Please could someone help me with my YP-Z5. I am having problems with my scrolling up button. Since upgrading to version 2.48 the scroll function for down works fine but it won't scroll back up.

I have tried taking it to pieces and reseating the pad as described in other threads, but this has no effect as the scroller is a sealed plastic unit.

My player's scroller sometimes works and sometimes not. It seems to be better when the battery is fully charged but soon stops working.

The only fix I have at the moment is to reset the player every time I want the cursor to return to the top of the list so I can choose an album higher in the list.

I believe it is the firmware because the pad's sensitivity is less with every new firmware, and was great with version 2.47. This player is really bugging me, as one version is too responsive, then another stops working all together. If I can downgrade I will never upgrade in the future.

Is there any way of downgrading the firmware? I have tried searching the internet but can not find anything. Please help!!!

I'm not sure that the firmware version is the problem, but here is 2.45 and 2.47. I have tried downgrading before and received a unable to complete message. Let me know if you have any more success.

Thanks for the links.

I've tried both of them and always get an error message " Upgrade Failed ".

I have also tried to reformat, but that didn't work either. I think it must be the firmware because sensitivity has really gone down since I installed 2.48.

The scroller unit can not be changed either because it is wired straight into the board. The only way around it is to either put one playlist with my best songs, or hit the reset button every time I want to change album. Shame the player takes so long to reboot.

I will have to wait for the next upgrade and see if that solves the problem, if there is no way of downgrading. I can't even take it back because my warranty ran out two weeks ago.

Any other ideas, please help.

Thanks.

There won't be any future firmware for the Z5, unfortunately. Even though your warranty has expired, I would imagine you could pay to have it sent to Samsung for repairs.

Looks like I am stuck with a duff machine, if I can't downgrade. I am not going to spend any more money on it. I am not impressed with this player at all.

I definately believe that it is the firmware because it stopped working right after I upgraded. The player seems to work fine for a short time on full charge but soon loses it's sensitivity. If the touchpad is faulty, why would it work okay on full charge?

Each firmware that has been released has gradually lessened the sensitivity of the touchpad and made the player less responsive.

I wouldn't recommend buying this player to anyone, as it has always had issues with it's touchpad.

I use it now for one album at a time, and the rest of the space as a backup drive for college files. It's just a glorified usb stick.

I'm not sure if this is an obvious question or not, but have you tried re-installing the same version of firmware you have now?

Yes, I have tried reformatting the player with windows, then reinstalling the firmware, but still have the same problem.

I have taken it apart several times as described in other threads and cleaned and reseated the touchpad, still no joy.

I am a bit confused about how the scroller works because, as far as I can see it is sealed, and doesn't have any seated connections or moving parts.

I charged the player yesterday, and it was working fine but a bit sluggish scrolling in all directions. As soon as it stopped scrolling in the up direction, I put it on charge for five minutes and it started working again.

I haven't used it a lot since yesterday and the battery still read full.

Is their anyway of editing a firmware to trick the player to thinking 2.45/2.47 is an upgrade?

Could it be the battery is faulty and not chucking out enough power to run the pad?

Sorry about all the questions and thanks for replying to my posts.

I'm really not sure what is causing this problem (whether it's internal connections, firmware, within the touchpad etc.) or how you could go about fixing it. I wouldn't think it is the battery unless you have noticed a significant decrease in the rate it discharges. Editing the firmware is very complicated (or at least would take a lot of time) and no one has done so for the Z5 (that I'm aware of).

I know that the touch pad works with many sensors in the pad itself which detect the electrical charge in your finger, so it does not need to make contact will a moving part, but I'm sorry I can't suggest much to help you fix your problem.

I will think twice about upgrading anything in the future. 2.45 or 2.47 were a big improvement compared to when I bought it. I only upgraded because previous upgrades added more features and better sound.

I still think there should be a new firmware to make the pad more sensitive, for those who may need it. It should be looked into because there is no way of testing the theory without downgrading, and that isn't possible.

Thanks for trying.

hi! i hope someone still looks at this.
i've been tryin to downgrade my z5 from the 4.51 version but i get the 'failed' message all the time, and searchin on some forums i found a way to save a bricked z5 which actually fully resets it (http://no-sword-man.livejournal.com/12290.html). i tried it (yp-z5 updater) but in the middle of the procces i get an error message. problably bcause my player is not bricked. so up to this point maybe u already did the math and my idea to downgrade is to intentionally get my z5 bricked so i can reset it with this program. but how can i do this? ive tried erasing the system files but nothing... i know is kinda risky but i wanna downgrade the player to see if the freakin battery problem gets solved with the old firmware. so, haow can i get my workin z5 bricked? thanks

You don't need to post twice the same thing in 2 different threads

Actually I tried the Z5 updater for the first time yesterday. I had a fully working Z5 in fw 2.51.
It automatically installed firmware 2.28 or 2.38 - I don't remember - but a very old firmware (should be the z5-fw.dat file in the updater folder). Then I got a permanent white screen. The Z5 still worked and I could use it blind but the screen remained white. So I upgrades it to 2.51 (but I could not read the upgrade instructions on the Z5 screen so I pressed some buttons at random. After several try I finally managed to upgrade the firmware) and then the screen worked again!

So just use the Z5 updater to install the default old firmware and then you'll be able to upgrade to any firmware you want.
I tried it on Windows 7 64 bits (that's maybe why I got a white screen?) but I rather advise you to use Windows XP.
The error message is not because your Z5 is not bricked (mine wasn't either). Can you give more detail about it?

But I don't understand why it would fix a battery issue...

ok sorry bout the repeated post :P
im on xp sp3 and my Z5F shows the fw 2.51 kr. heres what happens: i run the z-5 updater and then i plug the player in recovery mode; the program recognizes it, initializes it and starts to update the firmware. so far so good, but after a couple of min i get an error message sayin 'unable to write firmware file data' and the program closes. i re-try and i get this message: 'unable to write to device. device time out'.. what am i doing wrong?
and youre rite, it might do nothing about the battery but i just wanted to take a chance. ive tried everything! even buyin a new battery. anyway, i hope u can help me downgrade. thanks!

Hum I don't understand what is meant by "device time out" exactly.

-Try on another USB port and another computer
-Format your player
-Redownload the updater here http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...14&postcount=6 if you downloaded it somewhere else.
