The Best of ABi: Accessories
I am going on vacation to the USA in 1˝ month I am looking very forward to it! However, I think I'll do most of the shopping while I'm home, now that I have the time & internet in my power. Back in February, Andreas posted the entry I linked to above and I found particularly the replug interesting. Could you guys recommend other great accessories with the same very practical value? Anything generic gadget will do, from cool USB Docks on-the-go to clever inventions like the replug. I am also looking for a mouse that can assist me when I travel. I am looking forward to hear your suggestions, thanks on forehand.

I have no idea how mice are like for laptop these days, but my Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX works pretty well on most surfaces but the catch is that the surface needs to be a certain thickness; can't remember what it was though. You can use the mouse with just a single AAA battery or two if you like, comes with a tiny USB receiver which can be stored in the mouse when not used.
But the scrollwhell is one of those things you need to decide whether you like or dislike it, it doesn't have a middle click key but you can bind it to the button below it if you want. It has the standard notched scrolling and a spinning freewheel scroll. |

Unfortunately I am a heavy user of the scroll wheel and the middle click so I am not sure if the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX is for me. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Most of the hotels I stay in are in the UK, but it's rare to find one now that lets you store your own drinks in the minibar fridge. I'd be surprised if this practice didn't originate in the USA.
I'm pretty cheap, so I just fill this "kitchen sink" full of ice from the ice machine and keep my beer/ water in it. It's exactly the right size to fit under the ice maker's alcove, so you just leave it there and fill it up (holds masses more than the wine coolers they keep in the rooms). There's always ice still floating in it in the morning. http://www.seatosummit.com.au/showdetail.php?Code=ASINK |

I personally have the Microsoft Arc touch mouse and for a travel mouse its perfect. The shape is even a bonus for using the mouse on uneven surfaces/sloped surfaces because you can easily grab under the back of the mouse. The fact that it folds so flat and is light is great too. The scroll sensor works like a kinetic trackpad (Flicking works), and you need to tap around the middle to middle click but all you need to do is play a few rounds of some FPS game with middle mouse zoom and your a pro with it in no time
![]() General gadgets to get, well a Leatherman Micra is a great tool, at least the one with the scissors, never really needed a set of crappy pliers on me- just don't take it on a plane ;P Cant really think of anything else at the moment, but if your coming in from the EU to the US then definitely a good time to buy shit you don't need like Tablet PCs and such ;D Exchange rate is good... btw- that box, yes. I need it. |
