Help Advice replacing Zen vision M hdd

I currently have a Toshiba MK3006GAL This HDD has seen better days and works intermittently. I bought an Ipod Touch and can't stand the thing (itunes sucks) SO I thought to upgrade the HDD. Question; why would I need to buy a Zif if I already have a Toshiba Style (zif I assume) connecter(ribbon connecting hdd to board) I see people have successfully installed 80's and 120's as well as Compact Flash I'm also wondering if I'll need a modified Firmware or will the newest firmware (1.6 something) recognize it. So I'm torn between just buying a larger capacity Toshiba alone hoping it mates with the ZNM connector or buying a HDD and A Zif or Compact Flash and an adapter. Advice very much appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I personally prefer the compact flash drive. No moving parts. The firmware is not modified you just need to have Xp/SP2/WMP10 computer to install the firmware.

I just installed the latest firmware with Window 7. So I don't know about having to use XP.
