Lately I have had problem with a high CPU usage from the ZuneEnc.exe. It uses between 50 to 70 percent of my cpu and 110,000k to 130,000k of memory. It uses the most CPU after I download a video podcast (specifically movie trailers). A lot of times it also uses the high CPU while I am just listening to music. I have tried ending the Zuneenc.exe process via task manager and the CPU goes down and it does not seem to affect the software. I have 3GB of ram, intel centrino processor, and windows 7 32 bit (used to be vista). Is it the software or is my computer just too slow to run it efficiently? Has anyone else had the same problem?

It's converting the video podcast to a compatible format/resolution to sync to your device. That's why.

I have very similar specs to you (except my processor is an i3) but I haven't noticed this happening, and I'm inclined to believe what eddie.exe said because I don't often download videos via the software.

People either get good performance or poor performance. There is no in between with zune it seems.

zuneenc.exe is definitely going to be the Zune encoder process. Try messing with your encoding settings in the software or manually downloading your podcasts when you know you don't have to use your computer, like overnight.

Where could I find the encoding settings to change them?

movie trailers come in 1080x1920, full HD with that really widescreen. of you sync them with your zune, these videos are converted to the size of the zunehds screen 480x272. if you disable this function however, the 1min clips on your zune are gonna be 200mb and much better quality then what it can actually provide via video out. I dont sync my trailers anymore. easieat solution.
