Hi,
I'm new to the forum and a proud owner of new Cowon J3. I'm quite happy with it and a bit sad at the same time. With some EQ presets like Hip hop I get distortion at high volumes like upwards from 35. Is it normal for it to do so or might there be a problem with the player. I'm using Sennheiser CX-400 II earphones btw. I'm planning to upgrade to better ones in the coming months, but can the earphones be the culprit?? |

It could just be that the presets boost frequencies too much. Try using the custom EQ only.
EDIT: also the CX series kind of sucks. |

I had the same problem when i was using v-moda vibes with my cowon J3. After i bought my brainwavz M1 i never experienced such a bug.

It's probably you headphones, I've never had a problem with distortion

I also think it's the iem's but who listens to their cowon upwards from 35 with iem's, this loud level can be bad for your hearing over the long run. I rarely pass 12 to 14 on either of my cowon's unless I'm feeding an amp or something not connected to my ears. You might want to try negative values in the EQ to tune to your liking.

I just plugged my 60-ohm PortaPros into my i9, with the BBE preset selected, and I couldn't make it up to 35.....too damn loud! In the upper 20's where I gave up, there was still no distortion though.

He could be using some sort of gain, you can't compare volumes like this.
