There is a recovery tool to unbrick the R0 but it can't be shared in any case. Some jobs at Samsung are at stake. I don't want some people to be fired because of that. So only me and few people I chose have access to it.
If Slade can give you guys another way to flash it that's fine (or maybe not so fine as it's always risky to flash it), otherwise there is strictly no way for you to unbrick it, I'm sorry

So I strongly advise you not to test any modified/hacked thing published in this thread on your R0 unless Slade or me validated it.

Yes, sorry for the double posting! (I was thinking about that )

And thanks for your answer! You choose the right way, if there are so many problems...I've no problems of brick now...it was only to know

the only way is with a qemu emulator but the problem will be you need a custom kernel with qemu support. (goldfish). also i am unsure if there is a possiblity to run a imx37 in emu.

hey Lorenz,
i am deeply sorry but both flashes of your sysdata.bin files didn't suceed. I guess there is still some issues with the repacker.

Thats sad to hear about repacker, but today we are going to investigate how we can improve this packer, and i forgot about sources,they will be uploaded soon.

Uhm...so the problem is not only the aui repacking, but the sysdata repacking. Maybe it has to maintain a certain format...

I'm curious: what happens if the firmware cannot start? What's written on display?

To test if there's some crc checking or so, we could change by hand some values (hex editing sysdata)

If I correctly understood: the player turns on, it starts the bootloader and then the linux kernel, right?

And for Android or rockbox: what are the problems to solve? It sounds quite easy with the correct drivers and kernel but it seems not so...

I put the repacked ROM file into the R0, started the R0
Firmware checking OK
Firmware upgrade OK
When I powered it on, the Samsung bootscreen displayed then nothing (black screen or rather back off I guess). So I had to unbrick it...

I was immaging a similar thing...it tries to load resources but it doesn't like the new file. The first to do is to try to hex edit the file. I'll do it if you want in a minute!

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.4shared.com/file/mUJ-BIhF...ex_edited.html

I have simply edited a string of the english language. The Reset My Skin string is changed to AAAAA AA AAAA. Let's try this. If it fails, theres really a crc check.

With my current skills, I'm only able to test R0.ROM files so Slade has to repack it before

I will do this tomorrow evening i am not at home till then. Also do not forget sysdata.bin is a RFS (fat32 with journaling) image dump. Its basically nothing more than that. So main problem i think is the journaling and structure of fat32

well as the rom file contains bootloader, kernel, cramfs and sysdata
kernel -> zImage
cramfs -> root filesystem in cramfs
sysdata -> mnt/media1 <- rfs (proprietory fat32 with journaling)

will be written to flash directly into the partions while flashing a bricked device. no conversion done. so it must be an image in rfs.
so maybe this can help

I tried to mount the sysdata.bin in linux but with no luck...Is it really a proprietary file? So we need to really understand how it works.
I found some tutorials to mount these file of samsung but they don't work.
