So which Cowon should I keep? (Decision Made!)

I'm in such a dilemma. I first purchased an X7 and was wowed by the SQ. I purchased it because I am thinking of ripping all my CDs to FLAC and would need the extra storage. It sure has its advantages, such as large capacity, very long battery life, and is nice and big for me to handle properly. The resistive screen is actually pretty good and is almost as smooth as a capacitive one. Plus, I just found out that scrolling through long lists is a snap by dragging on the far left side of the list of artists, etc. It is also quite slow compared to some other players

But...the Cowon J3 is gorgeous! That ARMOLED screen with the superb UI is very hard to resist. Also, IMO the now playing screen on the J3 slightly edges out the X7. It also appears to be snappier than even the iPod Touch.


However, I also have a pretty good capacitive player, the iPod Touch 4G, 64GB, and using EQu to customize the SQ. And to top it off, I also have a 160GB iPod Classic. I got the Classic awhile back to store all my music but so far I only have about 27GB.

So, if you were me, which player would you keep?

P.S. I cannot keep both because my wife is already at the boiling point, but that's another story.

Can you get 2 weeks deciding time from Mrs. Musichound? Maybe try this:

use each one exclusively for 1 week, carrying it around, day/night, under your normal listening conditions. See which one annoys you more then ditch that one.

Its what I would do if faced with such a choice Besides, you can always buy the one you return later on, when the price drops, or get a newer, better toy

I would probably keep a high capacity one and a low capacity one if i had to choose between all the devices you have. But since you're asking for a cowon one, i'd keep the j3 even tho i had one fail on me... main reason being that you do have a huge capacity player (the classic) not even nearing it's full capacity.

Also, i know it's a bit out of topic but, could you tell me what do you think about the sq of the j3 vs the touch 4g? since you have both, i've always wondered about that but i don't have enough money to get a touch 4g (not yet at least, lol)

I'll probably keep the J3. It is now the best player at the moment(stability). The X7 still have firmwares coming out for it and such would probably be better if you get back to it after a few months or so

WIth no EQ, both are pretty much the same. However, I prefer the J3's jet effects (Equalizer) to the iPod's equalizer, even when using EQu. To me the J3 (and X7) pipe the music better. I did not ABX this, so it might also be placebo.

P.S. Thanks all for your opinions so far. The decison is not easy to make because both players excel in their own categories.

Now here's my decision:

I have decided to keep the X87 and the J3 is being returned tomorrow. I have absolutely nothing against the J3 and it is a fantastic player. However, I primarily purchased a Cowon for great sound, and to have the most storage space as possible. The X7 does this in spades. Even though the J3 is a great player with a capacitive touch screen, I already have one in the name of the iPod Touch. Even though IMO the J3's screen appears slightly more vivid, retina display is downright fantastic in it own right. Plus, out of the box, the Touch already has 64GB or storage, double that of the J3 sans micro SD card. I believe a J3 with a 32GB card would run roughly around the same price as the 64GB Touch, but that's another story. The icing on the cake is that the Touch has access to thousands of apps, including several custom EQs for the touch that i installed, so that closed the gap quite a bit in the sound department. Plus, I am digging the larger size of the X7 and I also find it more a feature that the resistive screen is a bit less responsive (Less errors on my part.)

If I didn't already own the Touch, I believe I would have held onto the J3 instead. Either DAP would have been a win for me.

I've had 0 tecnical issues with it, and believe me, I torture tested it, including copying over 20GB of music in a single swoop. It could be because I started with FW 2.07,which took of the bricking issue with short files, and also, most importantly, I don't use a MAC.
