Lol yup unless you find someone with them over there will be very hard to find them! I used to work in Shinjuku and stay in nakano, I did find one specialist audio shop which was just walls and walls of headphones and earphones attached by lock so you could basically come in and plug in your own player! Dont know if its still there was 4 years ago was past the mcdonalds in a side street just before you get to kabukichu (take the street on the left past the big screen in shinjuku square!)

Lol thats assuming it still exists, that your in tokyo and if you are you probably know what a clusterf**k the layout is around that area haha!

Anyway I dont think you can go wrong with the HJE and theyre easy to come accross over there!

ooo that's awesome! so where are you now? you wouldn't happen to remember the name of the store would you? or the nearest train station to the store? haha because you're right about the layout of the stores. it's all small buildings crammed together and they could have several different stores in each. you could waste a lot of time looking for a store if you don't have accurate directions and a map hehe

i tested the phones in the usual go-to electronics shops like yodobashi and bic camera who also have their demo stations. the IEMs are locked in a display cabinet though so you need to call the clerk first to test them. but the specialist audio store that you described seemed to have them all prepared for testing.

anyway just an fyi, to check if a product is available locally in japan, i search for it in several sites like www.kakaku.com, www.rakuten.co.jp, and amazon.co.jp. if i can't find any results there, then they're most probably not in japan or you would need to spend some time and transportation money (and luck) to find some secret store without a website who has them.

Im back in scotland now, the store was all glass window with a red sign in kanji (which i couldnt read), it was really just a lucky find which is the way i did most my shopping there. There is a few record shops there tho so you could ask them if they know where the headphone or hifi store is. Really was a good set up for a audio shop though because everything was just ready to go or you could plug into their source via a 3.5mm jack in the wall.

Just a thought but maybe if you ask around there might be similar in akihabara although maybe to much chinese kirf around there. If you find anything let me know im usually back once a year.

i have some follow-ups if anyone's still reading this thread.

for the PFE owners:

1. where'd you get your PFEs? i did some research and was hoping to get them from amazon.com but they don't ship to japan. neither does audeoworld. can anyone recommend a retailer that can ship internationally?

2. i read some issues about the PFE filters (ex. they lose sound when they get moist, they need replacing after some time, etc). what are these filters anyway? aren't they just the grill/mesh on the end of the phones? if so, then why do the phonak filters break down over time while the grills on the other phones don't? how long did the filters last for you guys ?

anyway, i bought the HJE900. they're great hehe they do have detail even at low volumes. but it looks like my gf likes them too so i might just give it to her (especially when i didn't have anything prepared for valentines haha). so this gives me an excuse to get the PFE for me now

haha ill chime in again!

1. I got mine from http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/phon...eo-man-61.html they shipped them to me in dubai and sure they send to japan. They are a well trusted UK headphone company so shouldnt be any problem.

2. I havent noticed and problems with the filter and to be honest not changed them once because of this. The filters are a small plastic ring with a little mesh in the middle, By changing these filters audeo were able to change the sound signature for the iem.

it goes like this.

Grey filter- lowest bass higher trebles etc great for classical
Black filter- the only one i use as its more vesatile. Gives a bit more oomph but bass is still definitely not banging
Green filter - Bigger bass, quite fun sounding actually but detracts from the highs. good for hip hop etc

Heres what i suggest if you go for the pfe.

buy the pfe 012 + audeo filters in black for 98.72

That would leave you 20 better off and with that you could buy more tips or the grey filters (i personally wouldnt buy the grey's as i never use them, they sound best with the black filters and when i wanna be a basshead the green filters are awesome.

The reason I would go this route is that the 012 are exactly the same phone as the 112 apart from different packaging, tips and they come with only the green filter. i have emailed phonak and they confirm this to be the case.

Thumb Up

hey its shy again! haha yes chime in.

i also asked phonak about a retailer and they referred me to the same site as you said www.hifiheadphones.co.uk so thats where ill be getting them. maybe they can put this website at the end of the Phonak PFE review page too aside from amazon.com.

from your description of the filters, then they are just the grills/mesh covering right? hehe weird about how they can "break and need replacing in time" (earwax or physical damage aside).

yeah nice idea about buying the 012 instead. it didn't stick to my head when i read about the Perfect Bass model as having just a different filter. it always came to me as a different lower-end cheaper model because both the name and price were different. thanks again. nice recommendation and saved me some money!
