J3 Worth it for 192k files?

Ok, bonus is in so it's time to make a move. I am pretty much sold on the J3, seems every which way I turn there is the J3 saying "I'm it man, stop searching!".

One final question:
I am coming from a Vision:M and have 192k files for the most part. Am I going to hear a good quality sound (baring headphone quality) or is the J3 overkill for this sample rate?

I'm just using 20 dollar Skullcandy Ink'd IEH right now but I can, and probably will, upgrade those.

The bottleneck is rather those Skullcandy phones than the bitrate of your MP3s. 192k is generally perfectly fine, especially with good MP3 encoders, like LAME. Try using VBR over CBR for encoding, though - it wastes less bits and usually creates smaller files at the same (or better) quality.

You mean bit rate, not sample rate right? If they were encoded properly with LAME I would go for it and get some better headphones. If not. . . I really wouldn't bother. Where did you get the 192kbps files from?

They mostly are from other sources, some I had done in the past and I know Lame was used.

Headphones are definately on the list. I saw the PR-HJE900 review here and think they may be what I go for.

better hurry, they seem to be discontinued. and no successor in sight.

was looking for them too, but they are way too expensive in germany/EU.

Seriously? I didn't see anything out there that indicated they were discontinued.

I have that Panasonic HJE 900 and the J3 combo, and its heavenly.

Thanks for the input guys. As it turns out, I think I will just upgrade the IEMs and stay with the Vision M for now. I think my wanting a J3 wast really a case of the shinies more than anything else.

I'll be keeping an eye on the new stuff like the D3.
