Possible?
My bf got the archos 43 vision yesterday without realizing that archos doesnt seem to want to supply updated firmware and junk (so he says from searching), its a decent device but you cant sort music folders by alphabetical order! In any case can you rockbox it? |

Archos provides updated firmwares all the time, they're really on it. The latest firmware, 2.1.4, is from February 1st: http://www.archos.com/support/suppor...try=us&lang=en
Folder browsing works just fine with the stock music player, I have absolutely no issues with the alphabetical order. Yes, you can run Rockbox on it: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AndroidPort EDIT: I'm confused (and so is Archos with their naming scheme) - 43 Vision, not plain old 43.

She said Vision not the 43it. I expect that there is no Rockbox for the older Vision devices.

Oh, my bad. So I guess this shouldn't be in the Gen 8 forum.
Either way, I suppose Rockbox should run on anything from Android 1.5 upwards, according to the SDK/NDK requirements. EDIT: Duh, more brainfarts - it's not an Android device...

Released on 3/5/2010, The ARCHOS 43 Vision is a video media player with a 4.3” touch screen display, 8GB of storage capacity and 30 hours of battery life. The ARCHOS 43 Vision has very slim form factor, only 10 mm and weighing only 280 g. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ there was also a update on archos main website a while ago but has since been taken off, there is no firmware that i have found yet. also when i go into the folders looking up music all the folders are sorted by creation date not alphabetical. PS why is thread moved to 8th gen, it was started in the open archos section of the forums, this thread is about 43 VISION not about 43IT |

according to various websites the 43 vision was released last year so it isnt exactly old, and I can even get firmware updates for my 605 wifi which is way older.

i'm sorry. i meant the vision line actually, but didn't know that the 43 was only released a year ago.
but, still i'm rather sure that there aren't many if at all firmware upgrades for most of the older players or the vision line. archos was pretty bad at supporting their players in the past, they seemingly changed their ways to the good, at least for the latest gen 8, and even gen 7.

this is one of the Archos cheap re-branded Chinese range - its based on stock Rockchip (rockchip is home grown Chinese hardware) firmware, with stock functions and an Archos UI layered over the top - its a quick-buck player from Archos - the same unbranded unit can be picked up for less than half what Archos were selling for.
in short - never will you see any other OS or rockbox ported to this player, rockchips players are locked down, no open system to mod or build on - its cheap and throw-away tech made for quick sales and quick profits for Archos
