Custom Fit IEM's While You Wait

Among the multitude of thousands of iem’s, earbuds and headphones introduced each year, once in a while something interesting comes out. Sonomax out of Montreal (Quebec) Canada introduced custom fitting iem’s that they will be rolling out throughout stores in North America later this year. The tech looks interesting enough, reading from their site you see their tool, which looks like headphones but actually it injects silicone into soft earbuds while in the customers ears to form a perfect cast of the user’s ear, thus ensuring a better fit, seal and hopefully better sound. Hope they're affordable and sound good as this seems truly unique and promising.

Yes me too, could very well be my next pair of iem’s if they’re not too expensive and sound good. I believe that refers to the do-it-yourself molding kit or the injection headphone device, once the iem's are done you can use them till the custom tips wear out. But year if you don't do the impressions right you're out of luck ...

Sonomax hopes that consumers will eventually be able to perform it themselves in the comfort of their own home. During the pilot program, however, Sonomax recommends that the fitting be performed by a technician in a store.

yeah, I got that...I was saying dont mess up the molding process or you are out a chunk of change. I can see lots of amateur molders not doing a great job.

Very Interesting!

I'm quite happy to see all these developments in IEMs. Full sized headphones seem to be going through a phase where a lot of releases are a) associated with some popular artist or b) priced so the high cost is a major part of the sales strategy. Seems like actual technological development in full sized headphones is being replaced by marketing.

I'm still waiting for the Audeo beats by Rick Astley. They'll be so good you'll never want to give them up
