Are they any good? I haven't seen any topics on them so I'm guessing they are pretty bad when compared to other.

Once you look around a bit you’ll notice that there are a few threads that do discuss them and you are correct they’re not good. Fugly, over priced and poor build quality, for the same money there's better options ...

Yeah they are complete crap across the board, i have owned 3 different Skullcandy products all due to lifetime warranty returns. I owned one pair, they broke, warranty for a 2nd pair, they broke, warranty a 3rd pair, they broke, warranty for credit this time and used that to get 2 sets of headphones to give away.
The only good thing about them is their warranty service is VERY good and their lifetime warranty is legit, if they break for ANY reason at all you can get a replacement. But if you want a good sounding set of cans/iems many other companies offer far better products that don't break nearly often.

What kinds did you have though? Well, aside from breaking, were they pretty inferior in the sound department to other products?

Be honest with yourself and with us: you don't have to be an "audiophile" [we generally hate that word], but really...how important is the sound from a pair of headphones to you?
Do you value style over sound? Stuff like Skullcandy are examples of great branding and marketing, penetrating into the consciousness of the lowest common denominator. I have listened to the SC FullMetalJackets. Decent enough I guess, but not so much "better" than my pair of Creative EP630 and closer inspection reveals they are not even built as well as the EP630. For the money for the FMJ, my Maximo i590s kick their ass - I stand by 100% on this. Indeed, I even have a pair of Soundmagic PL21s which sound just as good and cost less than half the price of the FMJs. I have also heard some generally great word of mouth re: ME-Electronics IEMs. It's your money and your ears - but you asked, so there it is IMO, far far better IEMs out there than the SC crap. There simply is nothing special about the SC brand and one can do much better looking elsewhere.Go here: http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15243 http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69 cheers, -les

I had 3 different pairs of Hesh over the ear headphones and they all broke in under 3 weeks of simply daily use, the rails that slide to change the fit of the headphones on your head cracked and eventually broke on all 3 sets.
The bass was very muddy and not accurate and really just overpowered the mids and highs making them only usable for electronic music or for burning as firewood. They clamped too tightly which is why they broke and it also made them very uncomfortable for more than an hour of listening. They are all terribly built headphones, i have used/tried the Hesh, Skullcrushers (both generations), lowriders which i also own and they are garbage, GIs, and multiple IEMs. There is no reason to buy them at all when there are plenty of other companies releasing $50-$100 ranged headphones that are FAR better. Go get some Sony XB500 or XB700 which are better built and sound better than any Skullcandy product. There is also a bunch of active threads in the Headphone forum about sub $100 headphones currently that you should check out.

Thanks for the really good replies guys, very good info. The reason I asked about this was cause my skullcandy ti's are getting worn out and cracking. I wanted to try a different pair because my ti's for some reason have a worse frequency range then ones like the hesh's. I'm gonna have to check some of these other headphones out.I do kind of like how obnoxiuos they are:P I got the gold brown ti's cause of they're ridiculousness.

^ well yeah...not too many headphones that are more "obnoxious" visually than the SC. However, Monster comes a close second.

Just look at a website like iheadphones where you'll see them popping up by the dozens, names like: Aerial7, Coloud, Ed Hardy, Eskuche, Fenchurch, Frends, iFrogz, iHip, Siege Audio, Urban ears, WeSC and Zumreed all just on one site. And lets not forget companies like Sennheiser and Sony wouldn't mind taking a grab at that misinformed "All it has to be is flashy" segment. |

Skullcandy unfortunately is not a joke. I bet the company is making rafts of money. I wish I was in on the deal.
Just think how many iSheep are buying iPods because they are "cool", "look good", or their friends have 'em. Upgrade to Skullcandies and probably the music sounds better than the original earbuds. Tell all your iSheep friends, and they buy them because they are "cool", "look good", or their friends have 'em. Not a joke, it's a serious business. Steve |

Thing with Skullcandy is, they may or may not be plain bad, I don't know, but what I do know is you can get WAY better headphones for WAY less. The differences between <insert any decent brand> and Skullcandy in the same price range are huge.
Horribly overpriced, in other words. If you're looking for coolness get Ultrasone Zino or Senn 598 -- talk about gorgeous

Skullcandy seem better than stock earbuds, not as good as other options available for the same price. I will say the Inkd set my daughter had were tougher than lots of the other stuff I have tried. My Visang R02 housing popped apart in my laptop bag. The inkd housing got chewed on by my dog and still worked.
