hi all, i need an iem for metal music with a budget of roughly 120USD as i live in singapore and prices here may vary alot or so.. i listen to power metal mostly, with a few j-rock songs and some orchestra. i need the bass to be present but not boomy and making the whole sound muddy. like you know its there and it extends well and feel soundstage. mids shouldnt be recessed as i need guitar solos to sound good
hope someone here would know what may suit my needs best

myzq: You are in Singapore? Run, don't walk to the Jaben store in Singapore. Try the Hippo VBs or the Hippo 10s/10EB.
http://jaben.net/ I am a metal/prog/guitar nut - that stuff sounds terrific through those 2. From your description, your sonic preferences are similar to mine. If you can get em, do look at the Panasonic HJE900 - the single best pair of IEMs I own pretty much have heard to date.

i DID want to get hje900 from jnr, but wth sold out. i ordered in nov but news came to me that it was discontinued whatever. disappointed because i read alot through forums and came to that decision. was in hk awhile last two weeks, how are the prices there? think its more expensive? however went to um forget that place but its a rather "shady" mall or something and browse around with my family and i saw that the tf10s at one watch shop a kind of nice price. kind of nearly half of the price in singapore. by meaning of "shady" because i saw a sign that directs people to an adult video shop. haha.
edit: seyo shop is mighty expensive..for the pannie Last edited by myzq; 12-21-2010 at 11:00 PM. |

HK prices for this kinda stuff is meh. I am actually kind of bummed about that. For sure, prices for alot of gear/tech stuff is cheaper by about 10-15% in the States vs HK. There are exceptions though [for instance, in HK/China, the iPhone4 is fully subsidized with a 2 year contract, but in the States same 2 year contract requires 200USD or so for an iPhone4].
Beware of counterfeit stuff - you and I are basically in the knock-off center of the universe. ![]() I still say look at the Hippo VBs or the Hippo 10s/eb from the Jaben store in Singapore - haven't been there myself yet, but some here have. You can try before you buy

I second the Hippo VB's.
Also take a look at the phonak audeo pfe. It's what I use I find it excellent with metal and orchestra. Especially when blended together. The highs can fatigue me after a while but a quick change in a players EQ setting can fix that. |
