Now do the same to the other, pull out the cotton and replace with foam, glue back the mesh covers, there you've modded them for the best.

I think I have read that there is a mod for the Panas...remove the mesh, stuff tiny bit of cotton or small piece of [tip] foam into the nozzle - this is said to reduce a bit of treble "brightness" some experience, while also bringing up the mids.
Artmuzz, yeah, AFAIK, the grill only prevents wax buildup into the nozzle/driver chamber [which would be bad]... Have read a scant few who have experienced this. Mine are still like brand new. I tried to take some pics of my Panas - on my set, the grill seems to installed very slightly recessed into the nozzle housing. Putting on and removing tips have no effect on my set of grills. Just bad luck I guess - yours are new-ish right? Consider RMAing them

Don't use cotton, foam is better.

I managed to find old foam ear plugs and cut a tiny bit to replace the mesh filters/covers but I find the music a bit muffled. I was wondering if anyone has successfully used women's tights/pantyhose or stockings as a mesh filter replacement on the earphones?

Pantyhose works fine as well... if they sound muffled with some foam in it, just keep cutting it to size until the sound is right for your ears. Don't stuff it in tightly, a loose roll/ball of foam/nylon is enough.
