Default Ouch, Another Prediction of the Zune's Last Stand

The Zune standalone player, that is. Too much back and forth here, rumors of an HD2 and rumors of its complete demise.

This is only speculation at best and is not to be taken as fact. Anything and I mean ANYTHING you read on the web that did not come from an official source is only speculation and best guess.

Everything eventually moves on or transforms into something else and the Zune will be no different. It's all a matter of time.

At least with Microsoft is appears you will have a phone with a PMP attached unlike Apple where you have a PMP with a phone attached.

Personally I like my Droid phone and my ZuneHD and will continue to use BOTH.

Yes, of course. Last week I posted a different article from another tech blog with the same prediction. I was merely posting this article as it is more speculation for the endless rumor mill surrounding the future of the HD, and because I know it gets folks here riled up.

Rumor here...a rumor there...rumors every where!!! But it would make complete and total sense if the ZHD was the last PMP that microsoft made. My guess is we have to wait and see how the windows phone goes. If it fails like the kin we might possibly see another zune (ZHD2 perhaps) but if it rockets off of shelves i can totaly see MS completely stopping the line of zune PMP's and focusing their main prioritys on the software instead.

I don't think this thread will end up like the other one, pointless threads like this should be just closed/deleted because nothing good or constructive can come of them.

Windows phone will not fail, at least MS will not allow it to fail for 1 or 2 generations...they have too much at stake. I imagine they will be successful but it will be a long struggle...however, if they are not, we are still looking at 3-4 years at least before they would give up...Im pretty sure we will see a phoneless wp7 as the next zune hd....
At least the hardware will be nice...not impressed as I thought we would be with the wp7 choices(dell and samsung units are nice but they are not available on the carrier Im on in Canada)

With the expansion of devices making use of the Zune marketplace, it makes sense to me for MS to keep the Zune HD line fresh (if only with new apps, perhaps) and maybe even introducing a smaller ($99 or less) Zune player with WiFi and the marketplace access just for the pre-phone crowd. They could add parental control of output levels, and a way for parents with a Zune HD or Phone 7 to oversee/allow marketplace credits for the kids' devices.

Of course MS has rarely had similar senses to mine.

Let it be known, trolling on a forum like this isn't quite as funny as you were hoping...

Agreed. Personally, I don't have the time to sift through the garbage like this post to find the little morsels of accurate information that I so crave... :/

The problem with these predictions, as I've said before, is that they are beyond pointless. Look at it this way. If MS releases a new Zune model, despite the fact that almost every other tech product in the world goes through a 1 year upgrade cycle, the Zunetards will think "oh no, they're killing my Zune HD and replacing it with another model!!!" And if MS doesn't release and update? "Oh no, they're abandoning the Zune HD!" So whether or not the Zune HD gets a hardware refresh, certain people will declare it dead.

MS has already stated that the phone is this year's Zune refresh. Read into it all you like, but reasonable person would infer that this means that the Zune is now part of a larger product, and that any future dedicated player will most likely use WP7, thus MS having products lined up similar to iOS (minus the tablet, which I'm sure they're evaluating).

And I agree with the others, these threads are pointless and generally lead to things we don't like to see here. I'll leave this one, but I'll be deleting other threads of similar nature.
