Cat ate mine cx300

So cats bite the cord of my cx300 and the cord got split in two, nothing bad, i bought cheap chinese random headphones, desoldered them (so i did with the cx300) and soldered back to my cx300, they worked perfectly, but i noticed a drop in bass response, so im here to ask, what do

i dont want to buy expensive headphones just to get a good cable so i can remove it and put it on my cx300, and with the current wires they dont sound bad at all, but i noticed a little drop in bass response,

I would get better headphones. The bass on the cx300s is way too loud anyway. You don't need to pay loads of money for a good pair of IEMs. My knowledge of which cheap ones are good to get tho, is outdated.

Short cable runs don’t make a difference in iem’s and IMHO neither would the type of cable ... if you say they work perfectly then I would look to the tips and the seal that you are getting to improve the bass. Don't fall for the cable placebo, sure better cable will be more durable and look nicer but I doubt that one can hear any difference in sq ...

Cables shouldn't make a difference in sound, except when they're really, really shabby. A drop in bass response could be a phase cancellation issue - when the left, right, and/or ground signals get mixed, or when you soldered the wire to the wrong pole on the driver. Did you do a clean soldering job, or are some wires touching, or did you mistake the ground for the signal line? Always check continuity of the cable with a multimeter before soldering.

Hey man, sorry about the naughty cat...perhaps this is a blessing in disguise?

I owned the CX300 - a decent set of IEMs. But IMO, far far better choices out there so respectfully, perhaps consider buying a new set?

Remember the CX300 have been around for many years, a dogs lifetime in this stuff. Some great/amazing sounding alternatives can be had for less than 50USD, some even less than 20USD. I now own 5 other pairs of IEMs that absolutely all sound a gazillion times better to me than the CX300s. They range in price from 14USD to 80USD.

Thanks for you replies, i stole a pair of sony earphones early today, can someone tell me if theres a way to tell if my wires are in the wrong pole?

If you post some good macro pictures that would help, I haven’t opened my cx300’s so someone else can chime in but usually red/green means signal and no color is ground. All the cables are either painted or a color enamel covers them which needs to be melted off with soldering iron to solder a proper joint.

Not entirely relevant, but I fairly certain that cats just seem to have a taste for Sennheiser cables, especially those belonging to IEM's. There are many headphones at my house, and the cats always go for the senns.....
I've learned to avoid that brand because they just don't last very long. Maybe its a conspiracy!!!
