I do recall reading, prior to the Zune HD's release, a statement from someone involved with Microsoft about Microsoft only planning a couple more Zune hardware releases (the first one, of course, being the Zune HD itself). Whether that was truly accurate at the time, and whether they've stuck to that road map since then, though, is anyone's guess.

It happened on this very forum. It was an old post and I've tried to look for it, but doing so on my 64k connection is just a PITA.

He stated around launch that there were concrete plans for one more Zune HD, but beyond that they would have to evaluate based on sales and projected demand. Who wants to take bets that the 64GB Zune HD fills that "obligation?"

I remember Dave said something will happen 4 months after 4.5 update... Idk if its a firmware upgrade, apps or nothing at all.

I wouldn't be surprised either way.

If they don't bring another update, the Zune HD hasn't exactly been bringing in the cash; the dumping of the media player would just be a smart economic move.

A final hardware update before WP7 would satisfy (for a while, at least) most people, though. Especially if they bring in a major update.

Don't you think it might be a good test before release of a new Zune HD or worldwide launch for the Zune ?

For me, it could be a good marketing opportunity and the reason why it wasn't released worldwide.
