they can. my creative does, and of course windows media player does. it's unsupported though, and could disappear at any time if MS decided it should go away. Plays-for-Sure and Zune DRM are both windows media DRM, which is highly customizable.

Definitely an interesting article. FWIW, I was the PM behind PlaysForSure back in the day.

Before that starts a flame war... let me caveat with:

1) I did not choose the name (actively advised against it)
2) I did not allocate the budget (actively sought more)
3) I did not allocate the resources (actively sought more heads)
4) No, PlaysForSure was not another name for our DRM - it was a quality of experience program of which DRM accounted for just a couple of our nearly 300 quality requirements.

Dave, I know you hear this every day from customers but you guys and ladies have a plan and want to stick with it so you stay your course. However, this is just plain stupid.

The ZuneHD has so much potential its sickening that its not being used. Allow a purchase based marketplace or something. Open the door Dave, or at least try to. Contact some of these developers who are posting quality content/apps on sites that host them and ask them some questions and employ them. Offer the good ones a job. :-p It would promote competition within the company.

btw- Dave, do you have a WP7 based phone yet? I "might" have one but one thing I have noticed is the bass on the "acoustic" EQ setting is a weeeee bit to high.... could that be turned down a bit? HTC FTW!
