Default E260 "Bad Tracks"

I've had my e260 for years, and bought it to replace another that I'd had years prior to this new one.

I have NOT connected it to my computer recently (just plugged it into an outlet to charge), nor have I changed any songs or playlists. But I'm suddenly getting "BAD TRACK" notices on songs. So I have two questions...

1. How did this happen without me synching it with my computer?
2. Is there a way to "fix" these tracks without physically taking all 400+ songs off and remaking all 7 playlists?

I looked through the ABI forums and came across this post...

Quote:
Issue: I deleted some songs, but they still appear in my player. Also, they say "Bad Track" when I try to play them.

Solution: Formatting will fix this, but usually isn't necessary. Instead of formatting, try the following first:

1. Connect the player in MSC/Rhapsody mode.
2. Error Check the player with both Error Checking options turned on. (Right click on the Sansa in My Computer, Properties/Tools/Error Checking)
3. Delete the Data folder located in the Sansa's System folder. You will need to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" to see it.
4. When you unplug the player, the database should refresh correctly.

Explanation: The "Bad Track" message usually indicates that the Database didn't update correctly and is possibly corrupt. As a result, it still has "links" to files that are no longer on the player. Error Checking will eliminate corruption and deleting the Data folder forces the player to rebuild the Database from scratch. Yes, formatting will also fix it, but you will then need to reload all your music.
...except I haven't touched the songs. I used it one night before bedtime, and the next day (did not charge it the night before), in my car, I started getting "Bad tracks."

Will this work for my problem, and save all the songs that are "bad tracks?"

The fact that you have bad tracks means there’s something wrong with them, running Error-Checking, CHKDSK may or may not fix your issues, if it doesn’t work you can try connecting to pc and just deleting the bad tracks. That might not work either as there could be something corrupted that you don’t see and formatting would be the way to go but it will delete all tracks. All else fails and you'll have to re-firmware, which is no big deal but make sure you have tracks backed up.
