Im not trying to backup MS, just every that does software development. Its impossible to judge correctly how long projects will take. At my company we add random values and hope for the best, at a friends company they play poker to try determine how much over the schedule it will go.

Just so you know - developing mobile applications isn't trivial, especially when they connect to a webservice (vs. being fully local). Facebook was probably a 4-5 mo project that suffered some delays due to changes in the SDK and in the APIs.

Live Messenger - would probably be an app of similar complexity, perhaps a little less. But, as always I can't share what we're working on unfortunately guys. Can't confirm, can't deny...

dave we all know that you cant confirm info. but how about having some of those companies create apps in return for more publicity. or something that way it would be a pain in the az for the Zune Dev. besides its a win win situation.
i mean at least some leaked information. possibly though game updates because they haven't been updated

I cant remember if this was ever disclosed, but who made the Facebook and Twitter apps?

Just out of curiosity, why can't Dave confirm/deny? I mean, if MS really pushed out some awesome news to sites like Engadget about new awesome features that are coming out, I'd think Zune would be more popular, as it would get more attention.

Because priorities change, schedules slip, and there is rarely a good reason to tip your competition to what you're planning far enough in advance that they can react.

Because of you and I. Not personally, but the Zune community in general. You saw what happened when the twitter and facebook apps were late...And people are always happy to get surprised(well, except in a graveyard - that sucks).
