I was messing around with my S545 last night, and I discovered something really strange. If you put the hold switch on and hold the option button down, then plug it into the computer, in device manager it shows up as an HID-complient device, and a USB input device. What could this mean? I'm also curious as to whether or not rockbox will ever be on this device. Is it possible? Or is the firmware too encrypted to even try?

Rockbox, I doubt it. The other stuff, I have no idea.

RB: I would love to see that, but I don't believe there are any plans to apply to Sony DAPs.
Like Marv, your experience is the first I am hearing of this. I suggest you give Sony a shout - see if you can confirm this behavior. cheers! -lestatar

I haven't found anything else about the HID device thing, but I did find that if I extract the .exe firmware update, and copy firmware.sb to my devices root, it seems to perform the update, I can't really tell because it's the same. When I unplug it, it says to not disconnect for a while, and then it goes back to normal.
I'm interested in decrypting the firmware, but I have no idea where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I want to start getting into this sort of thing, but I have no idea where to start. |
