Default AAC won't play

Having a 1st generation Clip, I transfer my music usiing Real Audio AAC 256KBPS.

I have tried transfering using Windows Explorer, but for some reason it does see the Sandisk Clip

Ideas and hopefully I've said this properly??

Transferring music from Real Audio to the Clip is PAINFULLY SLOW!!!

Have you tried changing mode to MSC in the settings before connecting in?

a clip can't even play AAC files so you're wasting your time there. and i'm confused by the real audio reference as well? is real player/jukebox/networks/whatever still going? i thought they died years ago.

of course rockbox will allow you to play AAC files on a clip. but that's going off topic.

Not to go off topic, but: amazing/interesting that Rockbox, freeware, will play aac files, but the Clip's original firmware, part of a paid product, cannot.

I think if Sandisk makes money from selling an AAC decoder in their devices the MPEG-LA would ask them royalties. Of course freeware have no money income so they can't pay any royalties

Ah, got it--and actually, the freeware serves the purpose of further popularizing the format, including for paying players.

Thanks for the responses.

I may download Rockbox and see what happens.

Also hoping to upgrade to a Clip+ 4GB player at some point.

I'm bowled over by the sq of the Clip PERIOD.

Theres an AAC decoder in the newest clip+ firmware, but its disabled. Someday they might enable it, though probably by the time that happens the rockbox port will be better for playing AAC anyway (more aac flavors supported, better battery life, etc.) Or they might never enable it and just wait for the View V2

Furthermore, who in their right mind uses... Real Audio? I shudder to even think about that.
Nero AAC is the best so far, and it's free to use (if one really has to use AAC).
