O hai guys,
A while ago i, unfortunally, had a short circuit in my Zune Hd. Since im in Europe, it took some time to send it in, wait for repair and get it back here. (since Microsoft wont send outside of the US). I just received the happy news that i'll get it back by tuesday, but i also came with some questions. Does microsoft really repair the Zunes, or do they just send a new one? Can an USB-cable be damaged by a short circuit in the device it leads to? If someone has an answer for me, that would be great. Thanks!! |

Hey!
I am not sure, but i think they decide what to do with it by what is wrong with the device. Id guess, in your case, they will probably send you a new unit. The USB cable should be perfectly fine. Unless thats what caused the short in the first place, but if it didnt happen while it was plugged in, the cable should be good to go.

Little off-topic but lets say somehow my sync cable died out... can i get it replaced/is it covered in the warranty?

You can always try If its under warranty i would say a definite yes. My mom vaccumed up my standard headphones and i called them, explained what happend, and they said theyd send me a free set. I got the premium ones too Give em a call and just say something happend to your sync cable and it no longer works with your Zune.

How did you get Microsoft to repair your Zune HD while you live in Europe? I also live in Europe and I thought that my change on any warranty was gone since I don't live in the US.

Do you live in the USA? Just call the Zune Support (1-877-438-9863) and go through the menu till you get to a rep. Nope! for my headphones she just shipped me a brand new set of premium ones! I did end up fixing my other set with a bit of solder and some heat shrink. haha @Bartme He probably has a buddy who lives in the states to be a middleman for him.

Well, the short circuit did happen plugged in, but i cant see how the cable could have caused the short-circuit.

There might have been something in the dock connector of your Zune? Like a small shaving of metal that jumped two contacts.

What would be the dock connector here? I havent got an AV dock if that is what you mean.
Just in case you mean the regular usb cable, would such a shaving be in the device, the cable at the device side or at the usb side? Thanks! |

I had a hard time believing they would send me a new set of headphones for free, but they are (10-15 days for me). I actually laid on my stock headphones while I was asleep, broke them, and ended up getting a set of the premium headphones for $25 on ebay about a month ago. I didn't tell the rep how I broke them, just that they didnt work anymore out of the right side. Then she was like, have you tried any new headphones? I said No, thinking I wouldn't get any free headphones. Then she said, well may I ask how do you know it is not the device? I told her I've had it plugged in in my car and the right channel works fine lol. Another set of premium headphones free for me! |

ohhh no i meant on your Zune itself, like where you would plug the USB cord in. But im sure that cord is fine Ive never heard of a cord causing a problem like that on a device, so i think your safe @aryzonabay Sweet! Glad it worked! MS has one of the best customer support systems out there. Hahah actually the lady asked me that exact same question. I told her i had a cheapy pair of headphones that i plugged in quick to try. After that, she set me up with a new pair of premiums!

I just got my Zune back, including a letter from Microsoft saying its a replacement. Awesome, i got a new one! No problems on the cable. I'd like to thank you all, and i'd like to thank Microsoft! Thanks! |
