The main purpose is for music listening for my laptop.
Nothing even at $150 will fit this bill. Ignore the KRK Rokit these are too colored.
M-Audio BX5A monitors retail for around $250 and these are the least expensive powered monitors I would consider.Faults are much lesser than any "multimedia" speaker set you may find in masss market stores.
Yamaha HS50M are the least expensive monitors that offer a good balance of neutrality and SQ. These retail around $400/pair and best the KRK Rokit easy.
The Adam A5 monitors are very detailed in the upper registers but some may find this fatiguing. ~$800 per pair.
Nore neutrality can be had but for a price, Genelec be it the smaller or larger models you have neutrality supreme. Dynaudio BM5A(my favorite brand,I have the Contour and Confidence series, even the Audience are fine!)makes some of the most neutral monitors on the market.
