Default Headamp for my Samsung P3

I thought all PMPs would benefit from the use of a headamp (everyone seems to use them).

I am quite taken with the Pico Slim for portability, but wondered if the D10 would be a better purchase as I can utilise the s/pdif input on my Pure DAB radio/MP3 player. I know the Pico is expensive - does it justify the expense?
I am talking about sound quality here. However, I do tend to use my P3 most of the time.

Or is it the case that my P3 is so good that it does not benefit from a headphone amplifier?!

I don't believe it would benefit from an amp - what kind of headphones are you trying to drive?

I used my P3 with Grados SR60i and they certainly needed no amp.

I use IEMs, as you can see. Your Grados look nice but I can't wear them outside and I prefer the freedom of IEMs.

Yeah - I got rid of the Grados due to comfort issues. Your P3 will power all those iems just fine, I use mine with my ex500s and ie8s - I can't see any benefit in using an amp.

I currently have a Standard Pico portable amp, which performs great and I am very happy with its performance, that said headamp products are rather expensive but IMO worth it. Looking at the specification of you phones (below), I don’t think they would benefit much from an amp other than possibly the CX400’s. That said a good amp like the Pico Slim should improve the stereo crosstalk, provide better channel matching and possibly improve soundstage on all of them. I wrote a post “what can amps accomplish" here if you are interested in reading or you can wait till my Pico Slim arrives and I’ll let you know how I like it

Klipsch Image X10 - Impedance 50 ohms, 110 dB SPL/mW (1mW)

Klipsch Image X5 - Impedance 50 ohms, 115 dB SPL/mW (1mW)

Altec Lansing Backbeat Pro - Impedance 29 Ohm, 105 dB SPL/mW (1mW)

Sennheiser CX 400 II Precision - 16 Ohm, 114dB SPL/mW (1mW)

Edit: The reason I believe the Sennheiser CX 400 would benefit the most is because their specs aren’t too far off from my overly sensitive UE-11’s and they do benefit from a portable amp (impedance is 18 Ohms at 1kHz sensitivity of 119db @ 1mw).

Thanks for your honest, open-minded reply. Your link was very enlightening. I would have replied before but I got caught up in the "Audiophile Listening Habits" thread - troll or not, Shemp457 certainly lightens the mood! Poor guy, you have to feel sorry for him.

Yes, do let me know. What DAPs do you own?

In the meantime, I shall gen up on the whys and wherefores of the importance of complementing audio products.

Thanks again,
