full shutdown; huge power consumption

So my zen x-fi is paired with my Shure SE530s. Because of the high impedance of these things I can hear hissing with anything I plug these into. I noticed that when I turn off my zen x-fi for a couple of hours or so and I put on my se530s, I still hear the hissing even if its off. I'm assuming the zen x-fi doesn't do a full shutoff. Has anyone noticed this? I mean I've had situations where I had the zen x-fi fully charged then didn't use it for a month. When I tried turning it on, it wouldn't turn on unless I charge it. Another thing that makes me laugh is how they designed the backlit screen to stay on the whole time while music is playing unless it is put on hold. Anyway, these are just some of my thoughts and I came to the conclusion that this player consumes alot of power which results in more frequent charging.
