Hey there!
First I want to say I'm from Germany, so don't be shocked if I write bad english. Dockingstation "Ovanum Blue Edition" for Cowon S9 Since I bought my Cowon S9, I looked for a nice Dockingstation, but I couldn't find any station on the internet or electronic shops. So I tried to create my own Dockingstation, and I think I did it well. ![]() (Pictures, on the bottom) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Specification Dimensions: 22.00cm (L) X 8.00cm (W) X 4.00cm (T) Weight: 320gConnectivity: USB Cable Power: 5V Cable Cable: USB and Power Cable together Audio: 2 speaker on the bottom, 1/8 inch stereo audio jack Please give comments !!! Looks good. Wouldn't happen to have a remote for volume would it?

pretty awesome. I'd certainly be happy to get that for xmas
![]() But on the remote thing, me and a mate were discussing the best way to use the S9 as a party device. I reckon someone needs to develop a side ways music UI with big buttons, where as he was talking about something more similar to this, and just let people poke the top. I'm not sure the S9 would ever support a remote, so which way would you go out of those two?

I meant a volume on the speakers on the dock. I already know there isn't a remote for the S9.

"Thinking" is all it will ever be. The dock is nothing but a box with a speaker, LEDs, and a USB and audio cable that is "glued" in the configuration of the S9 bottom. It's essentially a glorified edition of glueing a USB cable and a 3.5mm audio cable to a speaker. A remote is for volume would have to regulate the volume seperate from the S9, and unless the S9 has remote capabilies and the dock is completelly redisgned, controlling playback will never be possible- as Syndrome says. Since the S9 has BT, the most logical thing to do would be to use a BT reciever and then have the S9 as the "remote".

The S9's bluetooth sound quality is so terrible (maybe only on the 32GB models) I would NEVER EVER, EVER buy a bluetooth speaker to use with my S9. So I'm quite interested in a speaker system I dock the S9 into.
EDIT: KeyoneGangster, I like the docking station! My one criticism would be that the S9 looks a little fragile sitting there without a back support. Last edited by invertedskull; 11-26-2009 at 09:11 PM. |

Ha. I love it.
I only clicked on this thread because I, too, recently decided to make a docking station for my S9. ...Except I'm making mine out of an iHome wooden iPod Dock. For anyone curious, it looks like with the iHome iPod docks, you can take them apart fairly easily and splice on a female usb port for connecting your S9 up to it. I took the iPod dock apart, found out that the USB Power and USB ground were clearly labled on it (but a Voltage Meter would tell you which one was the power and which wires were not). And the audio input were Labled as well. My next stage is to figure out how to line up a male mini-stereo cable with something to cradle my s9, while leaving room for the usb cable to be plugged in when I want it.

Maybe you could make some and sell them!
![]() I for one would be supremely interested in such a dock! How much money did you spend on making the first dock? |

Nice to hear
Well, I had to experiment some special materials and so on so it was definitely expensive but when I count the things in the dockingstation (like the Plexiglas which was really expensive) together it could be a price of 80 Euro (= 120 $ USD). Is it too expensive ?! But I want to build another dock, maybe it will be cheaper and i garante it will be nice, too.

That is beautful! Great work.
So where does it take the audio from? The headphone jack or USB? And if USB, how did you manage this and what benefits does it bring the sound quality?
