Default What firmware is shipping with Cowon S9 32GB?
I wondered if any of you have recently acquired a Cowon S9 and, if so, if any have received a unit with the 2.50 firmware already installed, since it was only released on 3 November.

I received a Cowon S9 32GB last week which appeared to have been returned (some tell-tale signs I think) and I was surprised to find the 2.50 firmware already installed...so naturally I was wondering if this was done by a previous user of the unit who returned it to the retailer.

If I am spending this much on a player, then I would prefer a unit that has not been returned already!

I bought mine on 12/22/09(Retail Store), it came w/ 2.41 FW, so far the device has been very solid. I couldn't tell if mine was a returned device.

mine arrived a week or 2 ago and came with 2.50.

I upgrade to 2.50. Wow is it ugly. My recommendation is either to downgrade to 2.41 or at least install Claw's UI and three icon themes after you copy and rename mainmenu1.sfw to mainmene2.sfw and mainmenu3.sfw.

Sorry, you might actually like interface. But, it scared me. I looked like hello kitty gone wrong. Can hello kitty go right?

Mine came with 2.41 installed. What about it makes you think it was used? Did it go through the initial setup when you first powered it on?

I just got mine Dec 23, 2009, and I thought mine came with 2.14; but maybe it was 2.41. In any case, the firmware upgrade to 2.50 was very easy and smooth.

Yes, unit went through initial setup - this can be re-done anyway by removing the param.nfo file in the root directory.

Couple of wee things raised my suspicions - small sticky blob and dirt under protective screen cover, but the 2.50 firmware made me even more suspicious. Unit is in perfect condition, so may simply be a bit of factory sloppiness!

Also had 2.50 on mine. Bought it off of eBay, directly from Cowon's eBay store.

Bought mine at Newegg in early November and it had 2.30 on it. Upgraded it to 2.41 as soon as I got it and am now going to 2.50..
