I put this here, rather than in the Clip, Clip+, and Fuze boards because it could apply to all of them. Why not just the choice of MTP or MSC mode? The Auto mode causes more confusion amongst those new to the Sansas than either of the distinct modes, what with files being invisible, etc.
Thoughts, everyone?

and which would you have Sansa default to?
having to choose MTP or MSC before using the player would annoy many. Looks like a can't win situation. probably default to MSC, and those that want to use Rhapsody or have another reason to use MTP would have to change it. Steve |

I don't know of any other brand that uses this annoying "auto detect" feature, and I strongly agree with Marvin. Same as Cowon, Trekstor, and other player brands that support both transfer protocols, it would be very nice if Sansa players would default to the standard MSC mode - since this is way less dangerous and illogical than MTP, especially for novices. I can't even count the times how often a simple "switch to MSC" was the solution to all problems people had with their Sansas and the troublesome MTP protocol.
For the minority that needs MTP for DRM-crippled junk, it would be easy to switch to that mode anyways.

You have to end up choosing one or the other anyways, because either one or the other is better than the Auto mode, IMO. How many posts have we seen where people can't see their files that are on the player? Especially in the SanDisk forum, these are never-ending.
I would suggest the Sansas default to MSC, so any OS can recognize it and work with it. My Samsung Q2 has no Auto mode, and it defaulted to MTP. I threw some tunes on it at first before I realized that, and ended up switching it over to MSC once I discovered it was available. My Sony, on the other hand, has no MSC option, but since I'm on a Windows PC, it hasn't mattered a lick, thus far. I plugged it in, and it just works. If I had the option, I'd switch it to MSC, but it's worked fine for me as is.(so far....)

Good points, I agree it's one less aggravation or source of confusion for n00bs
