Default fiiO e3 to e5?

hello.

i have the fii0 e3 amp and i'm wondering if there is any point in getting the
e5? is it better as far as sound quality goes?

actually i mentioned this on another forum that i joined[and then left!], and the answer was that there is no need to get any amp at all.

i was told that my 'creative' canalphones don't need to have an amp to work to their best, in fact NO portable 'phones should really have an amp.

any truth in this?

The main difference is it gives you the option of whether or not you want the bass boost that is inherent, yet not overwhelming, in the E3. It also has its own volume control, and an internal rechargable battery. I had both FiiOs, and ended up selling the E5 because I didn't need an amp very often after I upgraded my mp3 players. I still use the E3 with my one pair of stay-at-home headphones.

Is the E5 better? I've heard people say that it puts out a cleaner sound than the E3. It is nice to be able to not use the bass boost, as not every earphone would need it.

Actually, there are canalphones that do need an amp, but I can't say for sure if yours fall into that group. It can also depend on what player you are plugging the 'phones into.
