Great, guys! I'm hoping it's a relatively complete install of Android. It looked like they said there would be no support of GPS, Multitouch, or even the cameras. I sure hope that's not true.

No multitouch? Why didn't they go up to 2.0? Odd...

Maybe because Google hasnt released the source code of 2.0 yet

Well they had to know it was coming, and they should at least get ready to put it out there... else the Zii is losing alot of its usability... heck, maybe this IS all a ploy for their e-reader...

The e-reader that's buzzing about looks to be much more than just e-ink and a book page display. The Archos 9 and a few other tablets are showing up. I think Creative has realized the thin format of the Kindle, with a color screen, web browser, and more media capability would be a better "tablet PC" than most of those.

So it will take all the technology and experience gained from the EGG project and dump it into a tablet pc??
heck i hope they dont drop the egg completely... |

the egg is just the device used to develop apps for ALL upcoming zii-based devices (phones, ebook readers, PMPs, tablets, gps, set-top boxes, etc).

I just installed Android 1.6 and it looks like it is a very basic Android package. Its very snappy compared to Plaszma but it is still very buggy and unfinished. Camera does not work and wi-fi has been a pain to get going.

What makes you think that it's only proof of concept? The only things that are missing from this release are GPS, Bluetooth, camera support and a way to set the time. Aside from that, it's pretty complete... Did you expect proprietary apps like the Android Market or apps such as youtube/maps/Gmail? They will never come to the Zii Egg, because it's not a Google Experience phone, only a developer device...
Most recently announced Android devices only run on 1.6, so the Zii Egg is pretty much up to date... |

Proof of concept meaning they just got it up and running to get it to run- camera doesnt work, its very buggy, and its needs to be localized for the Zii hardware- there is still features and settings in there for cellphone networks.

NICE!/ If the Zii gets the Android market + Android 2.0 + the Sense UI, Ill get this instead of the Zune HD! =D
