c250 No songs when connected as MTP

Hi, my sister bought this for me a long time back and it was great, but i just found it again like yesterday and hooked it up to my laptop.. which i got after i lost the c250. It connects and the computer recognizes it but when i go to the music folder it only shows 50 mb worth of song.. i have 1927 mb worth of songs on the player. The songs show up on the player and work fine just wont show up on the computer. I read that maybe its firmware update problem, but im scared to try anything since i have old songs on the player and no where else. I really dont feel like downloading a gigs worth of songs again.... i dont have THAT much time. So if there is a way for me to back up the songs on the player and then play around with the player please let me know. Thanks
