Trouble uploading music

I've had my Samsung P3 since the 2.14 Fireware was available, as that it was it came with. I've never had any problems with it that I couldn't solve, even when uploading videos, I was told by the browser that it wouldn't work, and it did.

Anyway, I've got a few downloaded files on my PC--music files--but every time I go to upload them onto the player, the USB port cuts off and the player shuts down, saying that it's not registering on the computer anymore. I have to press the reset button (the first time I've ever had to do it prior to this) before it will turn on again.
The files are in .mp3 format, so there should be no issue there, but something isn't right. Is there some sort of copyright protection on it that automatically disonnects my player when I attempt to upload music to it?
That doesn't make sense, though, because it first tries to find the correct updates for it, but obviously can't as it's disconnected itself and has nothing to work from.
I downloaded and installed 2.18 and it worked for a while. But I tired again today, and the same problem occured.

Any advice?
