Has Cowon made the firmware code available to the public? If not (probably not) is it possible they ever will? If they don't, could someone with flexible morals find a creative way of obtaining it?
That last question need not be answered. But imagine what could be done with the S9 if it were available. So much could be improved a lot faster. Imagine having not waited so long for gapless playback.
