A developer posted a rough, but functional, sample camera app on the official Zii developer forum and I thought i'd give it a try and post results.

The HD camera is 1,3 megapixels (1280x1024= 1 310 720 px) and the front camera is 0,3 megapixels (640x480= 307 200 px) Such cameras are acceptable/poor for photos, but are good/ok for videos. But, if viewed on the Zii itself (320x480 resolution), photos and videos will look pretty good. |

Not to worried anyway. It seems to do a bit of everything. Besides. that quality might improve a bit. That really looks like a capture. If it doesnt improve, Oh well.

Riigghhtt..."HD"
Maybe I'm just an idiot, but how can a 1.3 megapixel camera be considered "HD"? Also, it seems the camera doesn't focus very well and is very noisy... And to think I was looking forward to seeing Zii Egg, now I'm just plain disappointed.

I tried the video recording a bit, and its pretty good, except for the software bugginess. And for the photos, software focus and stability enhancement can probalby fix some problems. |

Indoor pictures with no flash shouldn't be the measuring standard for a camera. Perhaps someone with a Zii could post a picture taken outdoors.

Tomorrow will be fine, thanks! As for the camera app, is it somewhere that anyone else with a Zii can download and try out?

Absolutely. You just have to sign in to the forum on Ziilabs.com with your Zii account and the thread is in the applications section of the SDK sub-forum

That's really cool. I just saw that he posted that. I haven't gotten very far on the development end. I don't have a lot of experience with Linux and I haven't been able to mount the device via MTP yet.
How do you install the app? Does it need to be done via MTPfs? |

Are y'all surprised a rough camera app (the first release?) on a developer device doesn't produce perfect photos? That being said, the shot of the "cola" can from the front camera looks pretty good to me. Sure, not the best colors in the world but hey, it sounds like it's one of the first photos taken with the device. |

The front camera seems to be more vivid, clear, and richer in color

It's good for what it is, no one should be expecting stellar quality from it. It's not gonna replace a real camera, but it's good enough to take some random shots outside ^^
I'm pretty sure Creative will update it :P

Creative has apparently included it's own camera app in the latest firmware update for the Zii Egg. If anyone here has one, could you share some photos from the "official" camera app?
