Sony X-Series Reviews,....

The review is fairly mediocre. But again, any review from a mainstream website is going to end in a: the iPod Touch has more features and is better kind of finale. It's what you get when 28 years old mindless bloggers pretend to do technology journalism... It's like movies are better when there are more explosions...

The fact that reviewer implies the Sony is way better than the S9 and P3, while bagging Sony for not doing what these 2 do (massive codec support, lack of video converstion) is quite a testimony of the quality and consitency of the review...

(Doing this rather than bumping it where I've posted it before, as this thread actually seems to have some activity)

So is the general consensus that the x1000 is a great player except for the disgusting price tag? Better than the S9 and P3 if the price is ignored?
I know the browser is crap, but as the other two don't do internet I can let that drop, and although the video problems are its biggest shortfall, I can probably grin and bear it and just convert videos.

I don't know about better... The touchscreen UI is better, faster. I know that. Haven't listened to one but people say it's even better than the S9 or P3.

I'd say the 32GB is maybe worth £200, but not any more than that.

(£200 = 334.308 USD???) I think it should be no more than $300USD, that's it. It's a nice first effort from Sony (considering how they cut corners using an outdated processor & substandard video support), but the V2 will be worth the asking price when it finally comes out next year.

Even w/ Slacker in the US it's overpriced. Slacker is a FREE APP!!!! I have it on my BlackBerry, and there's a version for almost any phone. Really, this model isn't worth it - next model I might get myself.

Yeah, it's hard to find one for less than £240 in the UK. The Sonystore wants £289 for the privilege of gracing their store and walking away with one.

£180 would be nice.

Amazon UK now selling it for £215.99 - cheapest I've seen so far.

There are a few display models with 'cosmetic blemishes' floating round too, for a bit below £200. If Samsung dont resolve the whole P3 32gb thing, I might find some gutters to clean and just cough up the extra money for one of them.

Another CNET prize fight where the scores contradict the comments made by the judges. In my experience with both, based on their judging categories, I'd give the S9 a 4 to 1 victory.

I had both and I enjoy the X way better. I can't take that navigation on the S9 too slow. And Slacker is the cake with great sound.
