Possibly the craziest idea yet…?

I’ve noticed that some phone can access Google maps (iphone), knowing that these phones use the internet to access this; would it be possible to download a section of Google maps or any kind of map to the Sansa? Using the wheel to zoom in and out and keys to move around, is this a feasible idea what so ever?

Try not to beat up my idea too badly.

It is not feasible with the Sansa firmware. Do not know if it will work with Rockbox. You might have make your own plugin tho. But I still do not know if that is feasible too.

Yes and no...

Pull up the map you want from google maps on the screen...then get the map as a .jpg file. Perhaps you could google sites that pull active links/content from web pages and then feed the url to one...I don't even know if something like that exists but it's worth a shot.

Or just take a screenshot by pressing the Printscrn + Ctrl keys at the same time.
Paste into paint and then save as a jpeg.

Put the picture on the sansa. Boot up in rockbox, then find the file and select it. The jpg viewer plugin will open it. I think you can even zoom in and out in it (though I could be mistaken on that...)

I know it's not precisely what you were looking for but it should work as a way to get a map on a sansa.

if you want such features, just get a player with wi-fi...i'm semi-perturbed by people who want a feature rich player without spending the money on a feature rich player...they want to add half-assed feature after half-assed feature instead of just getting a player that will do what they want and do it very well..the sansa is an audio player and BARELY a video player...and nothing really beyond that...but then people want to add shitty games, and other functions that are all but worthless on a device with a TINY, low-res screen...sorry, just bugs me...

thanks for the ideas, i got a screenshot of a google maps loaded in there, works perfect. can't seem to zoom in and out but good enough for what i need. (better than these un-updated $600 dollar gps pos's our companies give us engineers)

Oh and by the way, I have rockbox on my e250 and it comes w/ a built in jpg viewer, it will let you zoom in and out of the pictures...I know some people are saying rockbox is really hard to install but truthfully, it wasn't all that hard for me. If you can download a file and drag and drop to your sansa, you're set. Just be sure to back up your music.

I'm at a loss as to why this sort of thing would would bug you. Some people see it as a challenge to overcome. You can choose to not participate, and the actions of those who do will have absolutely zero impact on your life. The fact that you'd come into a thread like this and poop all over these ideas with your post, not that bugs me. Can't you just live your life without being so condescending?
